Consumer Alert: Caution Against Good Knight Bedding Botswana (Pty) Ltd

The Competition and Consumer Authority (CCA) cautions consumers against transacting with a company called Good Knight Bedding Botswana (Pty) Ltd (Good Knight Bedding Botswana). CCA has noted with concern a rising number of consumer complaints against this business which sells beds. Within a period of one month, the CCA has received and registered 17 complaints against this bed shop, and the nature of the complaints are very similar. Out of these, 15 complaints were registered in Gaborone, and the other two in Francistown. In Gaborone, Good Knight Bedding Botswana was operating from the Northgate Mall, and in Francistown it was based at Sunshine Mall.

Good Knight Bedding Botswana show cases to the public the different types of beds that it sells, and when a consumer indicates interest to buy, they are required to pay a deposit or make a full payment with delivery promised to be done within a week or so. When the delivery time approaches, management of Good Knight Bedding Botswana will be nowhere to be found; and should they be found at the shop, the delivery date will be postponed but would never be honoured.

Upon receipt of the first complaint the CCA engaged Good Knight Bedding Botswana and fortunately the consumer was refunded. More complaints then followed, and when it tried to engage the bed shop again, the CCA found that Good Knight Bedding Botswana’s premises were locked, and the business was no longer in  operation. The situation in the Gaborone and Francistown shops was the same, where management was nowhere to be found. Almost one month has passed, and Good Knight Bedding Botswana’s premises are still locked, and the business is not operating from its known places of operation.

The CCA is concerned that Good Knight Bedding Botswana may be operating at different physical addresses, where it could still be possible that similar unfair business transactions continue, and consumers are swindled of their money. Based on consumer reports and cases under investigation, Good Knight Bedding Botswana has collected over P60 000, either as a deposit or full payment.

The CCA continues to look for Good Knight Bedding Botswana management, and alerts the public to be cautious when dealing with this business, or those operating in a similar fashion.
